Midjourney metadata explained
Midjourney delivers images through its web app and Discord, and what ends up in the file depends heavily on which of those routes you used and whether the image passed through Discord's own image pipeline first.
What ends up in the file
Expect an XMP block with a CreatorTool style field in direct downloads, and in some exports a C2PA manifest as well. Images that were saved out of a Discord preview are usually recompressed and arrive with nothing at all. The filename Midjourney generates is often the loudest signal, because it contains the account name and a slice of the prompt.
Removing it
Our image cleaner rewrites the pixels into a fresh file, so the XMP block, any C2PA manifest and every EXIF tag are gone in one pass. Rename the file as well: the original filename usually gives away more than the metadata did.
Clean a Midjourney file
Remove every metadata block without re-encoding. Runs in your browser, nothing is uploaded.
