Why You Need a Sitemap Checker
An XML sitemap helps search engines like Google and Bing discover and understand your website's structure. A broken or invalid sitemap can lead to missed pages, slow indexing and lost SEO opportunities.
What is an XML Sitemap?
An XML sitemap is a file that lists all important URLs on your website along with metadata like last modified date, change frequency and priority. Search engines use it as a crawl roadmap to find and index your pages efficiently.
How to Use This Tool
Enter your sitemap URL (or just the domain — we'll try /sitemap.xml automatically). The tool fetches the file, parses the XML and reports the total URL count, sub-sitemaps, lastmod values and any structural issues found.
What This Tool Checks
- Valid XML structure, correct root element and required
on every entry - lastmod date format (W3C / ISO 8601), priority range (0.0–1.0) and changefreq enum values
- URL count against Google's 50,000 limit, file size against 50MB and URL length up to 2048 characters
- Duplicate URLs, cross-domain URLs and full recursive validation of sub-sitemaps inside a sitemap index

Sitemaps are fetched through our server with built-in SSRF protection — internal addresses and private networks are blocked. We never store the URL or sitemap contents.
