Understanding Color Models
Different color models serve different purposes in design and development. HEX (hexadecimal) is the web standard, RGB represents how screens display color, and HSL describes color in human-friendly terms. Each format has unique advantages: HEX is concise, RGB is intuitive for digital displays, and HSL makes it easy to create color variations by adjusting lightness or saturation.
Use Cases for Color Conversion
Web designers convert colors to match CSS requirements, graphic designers translate brand colors between tools, and developers adjust color schemes programmatically. HEX is perfect for CSS and HTML, RGB works well for JavaScript canvas operations and image processing, and HSL excels at creating color palettes by systematically varying hue, saturation, or lightness for consistent designs.
Understanding Color Models
HEX uses base-16 notation (0-9, A-F) where #RRGGBB represents red, green, and blue components. RGB uses decimal values (0-255) for each color channel. HSL separates hue (0-360°, the color wheel position), saturation (0-100%, color intensity), and lightness (0-100%, brightness). Converting between them requires mathematical formulas—our tool handles these automatically.
